The usable interior is fixed at 5" diameter and 1.5" deep. Confirm the full mud-frame footprint and cavity depth before cutting.

Installation overview
Cut for the niche body, set it into the wall cavity, embed the perforated flange with joint compound, sand smooth, then prime and paint.
